The Village of Blackville is situated along the banks of the beautiful Main South West Miramichi River. Incorporated as a village in 1966, Blackville has a population of 958 and has had a long history related to forestry and salmon fishing.
Blackville is considered the "Salmon Fishing Capital of the Miramichi". For thousands of years, this watershed, has been a gathering place for huge numbers of spawning Atlantic salmon, and one of the largest Atlantic salmon runs in all of North America.
Visitors can explore Blackville's trail system that now features a self-guided interpretive walk that explains how the Miramichi watershed is a lifeline for the Atlantic salmon and other fish species, as well as local wildlife, and the people that live here. Visitors will also shiver to the bone-chilling tale of an unfortunate logging camp cook who haunts the forests of the Dungarvon River.
