Build Nova Scotia is the crown corporation responsible for leading sustainable development of high potential property and infrastructure across the province to drive inclusive economic growth.
Peggy’s Cove is one of Nova Scotia’s most iconic attractions and known internationally. It is a unique coastal visitor experience and destination with high levels of visitation. Peggy’s Cove exemplifies the quintessential Nova Scotia that visitors love, and residents cherish. It is also a living community, an active fishing village, and home to year-round residents.
Sperry Design worked with Build Nova Scotia and with the Community over several engagement sessions to design and implement a signage system for the community of Peggy’s Cove. The design intent was to develop a cohesive signage system that improves accessibility, wayfinding & storytelling for residents and visitors. Additionally, our aim was to respect the vernacular of Peggy’s Cove. Signage was designed to integrate into the landscape in a respectful and thoughtful manner. The project was fabricated and installed by our partner Atlantex Creative Works.
Given the Cove’s unique identity as both tourism icon and living community, and the significant challenges caused by its popularity, the project focused on ensuring the continued liveability of the community, while creating a safe, accessible, and engaging experience for locals, visitors, and business operators.
